Second Harvest Food Bank: Helping Hungry Kids in Need

As part of its ongoing Giveback program, BlueModus has donated $500 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, a charity which works to feed hungry people and solve hunger issues in Middle and West Tennessee, and is a partner program of Feeding America.

In addition to operating more traditional food banks and programs, Second Harvest reaches out to provide food where it’s needed most. They augment school feeding programs, (such as free & reduced cost breakfast and lunch), for when children are not at school, including their backpacks program that provides food for the weekend, school food pantries, summer meal programs, and emergency food boxes.

This month's charity was chosen by Producer Dylan Thomas, our BlueModus remote colleague working from Brentwood, Tennessee, just outside Nashville.

"As a community, I don't think there is anything more basic than providing food for our children, but so many people still struggle with this basic need," says Thomas, "It hits me hard to think about how Williamson County, where I live, is by all measures one of the top 20 wealthiest counties in the United States, and yet almost 15% of children are food insecure. It just shouldn't be this way, and Second Harvest does a lot to fill the gaps."
