KIXX™ Software for Cable Plant Management
BlueModus' KIXX software application is an enterprise datacenter cabling infrastructure management and documentation solution. It was developed to meet the demand of providing companies complete control over this critical asset. The system manages all components of a complex cabling system using modules that are designed to:
- Track physical locations, cables, endpoints, connections, etc.
- Design new connection paths
- Generate system change log
- Embed business rules into the design process
- Produce useful reports and documentation
KIXX software is a web-based tool utilizing Microsoft’s .NET framework and MS SQL server. It has provisions for integrating with Microsoft Active Directory for authentication, drastically reducing the administration burden of managing access. KIXX software also maintains connection information, including those which pass through a media converter.
KIXX Modules
physical locations manager
(buildings, floors, rooms, cabinets, racks & cubicles)
Adding cables is simple; users simply specify the two termination points, the type of cable and where those two points are physically located. This data is stored and used to build the connections. The KIXX connections builder stores and uses information about endpoints, tracking assigned and spare ports. Groups of endpoints are bound by customizable rules determining which can be interconnected. New types of endpoints can be easily added.
connection manager
(from A to Z)
All cable connections are tracked over their entire path. Given two endpoints, the system is able to store the path over an unlimited number of hops. Rules can be set so certain groups of cable cannot interconnect to others. Using these rules and cable availability, paths are suggested for all new connections.
system change log
The System Change Log tracks changes to cable system components. Each change is recoded with the user's information and date and time of the change. Actions affecting a component can be quickly retrieved
report generator
Reports can be run on any physical location to list assigned and spare cables activity. This data assists in making decisions on managing the cable plant. Single connection reports can both be run and printed for troubleshooting and audit purposes, or in a condensed format for creating cable labels. The report generator can quickly display a list of servers connected to a switch to assist network personnel with changes or scheduled downtime for a device.
